Grab a drink, some friends and spin Thee Oh Sees over your next party and you’re pretty much set for a rad time. Their garage tunes are hazy, jangly and melodic partly due to the dual-vocals present – drowned in reverb this is the sort that is rough and ready. Help is their fourth full-length and is another addition to their already extensive catalogue, continuing their true ruckus fashion.

The Purple Sneakers New Years Eve house party is perhaps Sydney’s premier party to end the year. Consider 2,500 of your mates in a lounge room with some of the world’s best bands and dj’s including The Boxer Rebellion and Baddies from the UK, and the always-amazing Ponytail from Baltimore. Top that with some our finest local talent like The Grates, Philadelphia Grand Jury, Red Riders, DZ and many more, and you’ve pretty much got a recipe for the perfect end to 2009. With the first release of tickets sold out (and a second release sure to sell out soon), this is one party that beats being cramped by the Harbour.

The trained musician has already been commissioned to write a piece for London Philharmonic Orchestra, rapped with Wiley and Mecury Prize winner, Speech Debelle and her debut album, Jewellery, is perhaps one of the most freshest sounding and critically-acclaimed albums this year. If it’s new sounds you are after, Micachu & The Shapes is the band for you.

Just a note: the music of Micachu & The Shapes is abstract. It is heavily syncopated and dissonant, even awkward. The array of sounds generated from numerous homemade instruments is catchy, so catchy it’ll keep the kids with short attention spans at bay. Their unique sound has already captured the experimental pop queen Bjork and next year, it will be our turn to experience the flurry of chaotic sounds from Micachu & The Shapes who will be here as part of the Days Like This festival.
