Album Review: Love Is Not Pop

Over the course of three years, Love is Not Pop is by far El Perro Del Mar’s most refined album and while it may not be a drastic departure from her previous two albums the charm presented in Love is Not Pop is her most accessible yet. Co-produced with Rasmus Hagg of disco duo, Studio, Love is Not Pop is buoyant and provides a refreshing look to El Perro’s melancholic sound. Her gentle sensibility in Love is Not Pop carefully weaves curious adaptations of Lou Reed’s “Heavenly Arms” and poet, G.K. Chesterton’s The Great Minimum in “It Is Something (To Have Wept)” again displaying a solid and influential narrative. Her optimism sheds light and sound to her romantic ideals in seven coherent tracks making for one very delightful listen.
